My chubby cheeked chipmunks…

April 20

“April showers bring May flowers…”

Spring has finally sprung in Korea! Or well really Spring came in with a multiple personality disorder this year, a devilish one at that, and after 6 months of winter that’s just too cruel for words…I’m not entirely sure but I have a sneaky suspicion that the poet above was not talking about SNOW showers, but like most things in Korea, it musta got lost somewhere in translation…one day Spring teases you with new tree buds and 50 degree weather and the next it dumps snowflakes on your head…Yup, I’m pretty sure this is really Springs evil twin! But this week the cherry blossoms are blooming and my adorable snot-mongers are proudly dangling their wormy trophies that they caught in the near by stream in my face and holding my hand to show me the new bird eggs they found. Sigh…this is my favorite season for a reason! Sometimes I get down on my knees and thank god I have a nose!

The other day I found the school boys happily murdering a fat Spring mouse in the shade of our blingy yellow school bus. They pranced around proudly displaying their trophy crowing with glee. When they saw me watching with a sad look on my face they quickly put on their sad faces too and began digging a little burial grave for what was left of the little fella. They placed a big stone on top and marched around it in unison singing what I can only imagine to be a mouse funeral anthem and sending sneaky glances up at me to see if I was pleased. Carl came up to me and tried to explain with hand signs, a few English words, and his acting skills that cats kill mice so little boys should too! You just gotta love these kids!

Oh Mylanta, those kids are so cute I think I might throw up. What is that boy holding up (it's clear with black specs)?

Aren't they though?! I think Juno is holding a wormy thing he caught in the stream and keeping it captive in a paper cup, but I've seriously never seen anything quite like it!

That's awesome! It looks like some kind of jellyfish. Do you mean stream as in freshwater? Sorry, I'm just really interested. I've never seen anything like it either.

No, I totally understand! It was the weirdest thing I've seen too! I assumed the boys caught it in the fresh water stream near out school, but I'm not sure since our communication consists of Korean and hand signals…I'll ask someone and see what I can find out for ya!
