This yearlong documentary project explored teenage pregnancy in Kentucky through the life of Jamie Norwood, a 14-year-old in Louisville navigating the transition from middle school to motherhood. Through sustained reporting and intimate, observational photography, I followed Jamie’s daily life to examine how early parenthood intersects with education, family relationships, and reproductive choice. My approach grounded a frequently politicized issue in one young person’s experience, making room for the ordinary moments, uncertainty, and growing responsibilities that statistics alone cannot convey.
